July’s SLAS Discovery Special Issue Features Three Significant Research Areas on the “Functional Genomics for Target Identification” The July special issue of SLAS Discovery, “Functional Genomics for Target Identification,” features ten articles — four available via open access — focused on three strategic pillars that form the foundation of the functional genomics discipline.
The June issue of SLAS Technology features two related research papers authored by Georges Muller, Ph.D., (SEED Biosciences, Switzerland) the SLAS2019 Ignite Award winner and a top ten 2020 SLAS Innovation Award finalist. Both of Muller’s contributions to the issue include research based on a single-cell cloning method and pipet his teams created to help solve efficiency and regulatory issues.
In this issue, Guest Editors Joseph G. McGivern, Ph.D. (Amgen Research, United States) and Mei Ding, Ph.D. (AstraZeneca, Sweden) present three original research papers and one review that reflect the recent advances and continuing challenges in the development and application of assay technologies that are applicable to drug discovery for ion channel targets.
SLAS Discovery, one of two official journals of SLAS, welcomes Timothy Spicer, Ph.D., as a new Associate Editor. Spicer has served on the SLAS Discovery Editorial Board since 2016 and is currently serving a two-year term as Secretary for the SLAS Board of Directors.

Johnston, Ph.D., (University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA) disseminate their recent study that shows how incorporating morphology and dead cell readouts into cancer drug screening helps improve the drug selection rate.
In this review, authors Agata Blasiak, Ph.D., Jeffrey Khong, and Theodore Kee (University of Singapore and The N.1 Institute for Health) explain an alternate approach to the current limited and suboptimal big data decision making tools that are used to help medical teams determine a patient's drug and dose recommendation.
The March edition of SLAS Discovery features the cover article, “CRISPR: A Screener’s Guide,” by Carlos le Sage, Ph.D., Steffen Lawo, Ph.D., and Benedict C.S. Cross, Ph.D., (Horizon Discovery, United Kingdom). In their review, the authors discuss how CRISPR-Cas9 systems are being used widely throughout the drug discovery process and the development of new precision medicines.
SLAS Discovery and SLAS Technology announced their annual publication awards honoring articles and authors from editions published in 2019. The awards were officially announced at a special reception held in partnership with SAGE Publishing, on Monday, January 27 at the SLAS2020 International Conference and Exhibition in San Diego.
