Welcome Letter from the Chair

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce a brand new event from SLAS — the 2018 SLAS Americas Sample Management Symposium: Managing Samples from Bench to Clinic. I'm honored to serve as chair for this inaugural event and would like to extend a formal invitation for you to join me in Boston, MA, November 13-14, 2018.

Produced by practicing researchers, this symposium will highlight advances in traditional compound management and how research organizations are evolving by partnering with biological and clinical groups to support — and reinvent — modern drug discovery processes. Among the hot topics that will be addressed through educational sessions and attendee interaction:

  • The rules of sample storage and management of samples are being rewritten – biological compounds and samples require the same attention and care previously paid only to small molecule libraries.
  • Sample management groups increasingly support a growing array of human disease relevant assays and models.
  • Quality programs and regulatory awareness are necessary when handling and providing samples in support of clinical studies and regulated bioanalysis.

Ever-growing collaboration between academic, government and commercial institutions is forcing an increased emphasis on best practices for sharing samples. While such an evolving field increases challenges, it likewise presents significant opportunities for sample management organizations. Please join me at the 2018 SLAS Americas Sample Management Symposium to learn how to equip and position your organization to succeed in this important and dynamic field.
