Göran Landberg, M.D., Ph.D., is a professor and senior consultant in pathology at the Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research Centre in Gothenburg, Sweden. The long-term goal within his research group is to develop novel treatment principles and diagnostics for cancer patients better targeting true malignant features by understanding key tumor biological issues and properties including the tumor microenvironment.
Landberg has a unique and highly competitive competence in molecular pathology based translational research and has established several national and international centers focusing on molecular pathology, cancer and breast cancer, where he previously worked as a professor and senior consultant in breast pathology in England and Sweden.
In 2008 Landberg started up a novel breakthrough breast cancer research unit in Manchester in collaboration with Cancer Research UK and Christie NHS Hospital. This recruitment was in line with his goal to focus on cancer stem cells and the cancer microenvironment. In 2013, he was recruited back to Sweden to a newly established Cancer Centre in Gothenburg linked to one of the largest hospitals in Northern Europe with an outstanding potential for running translational cancer projects.
In total, he has published more than 200 regular articles, supervised 27 Ph.D. students to graduation and worked with 22 postdocs with substantial external fundings indicative of high and consistent activity. He is the founder of Sortina Pharma and Iscaff Pharma focusing on the cancer microenvironment and innovative drug discovery and precision medicine.
